The decision to allot booster shots to high-risk workers came after a disagreement between government health officials. A panel of CDC advisers on Thursday voted against the booster shots for frontline workers and others with a high chance of exposure to the virus. This was however disagreed upon by the CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, hence the clearance for booster shots. She said in a statement that the nation's public health can be best served by providing booster shots to the elderly and to those with a high chance of exposure. The same panel of the CDC will also review data on the safety and efficacy of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines that are not yet approved by the FDA.
