Federal aid expires leaving 7 million without unemployment benefits
As three federal programs expire, more than 7 million people in the US are estimated to lose all jobless benefits. Experts describe this as the largest and most abrupt end to government aid in the history of the country. Along with the 7 million, another 3 million will lose their weekly bost of $300 state benefit.
The end of the jobless aids could make things worse for millions of Americans still struggling to find jobs as the Delta variant surge continues. It could also have an impact on spending and consumer behaviors leaving many restaurants and small businesses in a dilemma. Removing millions from government aid abruptly could push many into poverty and even cut off their access to essential needs and services.
