Garment workers in LA face low wages, unsafe workspaces

Thousands of garment workers in LA who work for a variety of fashion brands are paid much less than the minimum wage through a system of piece-rating. For every piece of clothing they make, workers are compensated with just a few cents. Workers say that the work timings are 7 AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday and additional five hours on Saturday with no payment for overtime. These wages are far below the California minimum wage of $14 per hour.

Wokers also anonymously said that they were not offered breaks and the employer continued operations without ensuring covid-19 safety protocols. Employers are also accused of moving production into a windowless basement hide from regulatory authorities.
