Paid family leaves encourage return to work

Bipartisan Policy Center and Morning Consult recently conducted a new survey that showed that 37% of unemployed Americans said that they would return to work if they were given paid family leaves. Ever since the US Labor market started opening back up, there has been a shortage of workers, especially now that the unemployment benefits have expired, many are looking to go back to work. Traditionally employed Americans have always had to choose between work or career, this issue was solved when the work from home situation started. Therefore, employees will be more willing to go to work if there is paid family leave which enables them to have both without sacrificing one. The U.S. is one of the few industrialized countries without a national paid family leave policy. According to the survey, 58% of workers who cut back on their working hours said they would increase it if their employers gave them paid family leaves. Another survey conducted by Bipartisan Policy Center in April confirmed that 10.6 million people quit their jobs due to caregiving responsibilities, the majority of whom were Black and Hispanic workers.

The Democrats who are huge advocates of paid family leave are allegedly all set to address this at the upcoming budget reconciliation legislation at Capitol Hill this month.
