Alec Baldwin fatally injuries crew member, production team had mentioned safety concerns prior to the incident
An extremely tragic accident took place on the sets of Alec Baldwin starer 'Rust' when the actor fired a prop gun that fatally injured the film's cinematographer, 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins. The actor was handed the gun by assistant director Dave Halls.
Before this incident occurred, the camera crew filming the movie walked off the job in an attempt to protest various production issues and concerns, one of which was safety. These disputes started at the beginning of October when the crew started filming. The crew members had expressed their concerns regarding safety as well as their accommodation arrangements, the Rust Fim Production did not respond to their problems. The film crew had a court order that allowed them to carry on the shooting, an "armored" or guns specialist had placed three guns in a cart for the scene. The Assistant Director Dave Halls picked up a loaded prop gun and handed it to Baldwin yelling "cold gun" which incorrectly indicated that the gun was not loaded. Upon firing, the gun fatally injured Hutchins and wounded Director Joel Souza. Prior to the incident, adding on to the safety concerns brought up by the crew, Baldwin's stunt double had accidentally fired two rounds of a gun filled with gunpowder. A text message between an alarmed crew member and the unit production managers confirms how the member had informed the manager about three such incidents and the safety issues.
