Target's hiring plans for the Holidays

On Thursday Target announced that it will trim down on hiring new employees during the holiday season but in fact will allow existing employees to pick up extra shifts. The data for the same states that Target expects its current staff of 300,000 people to work 5 million more hours during the holiday season which in turn means a total of $75 million of additional pay. The company still plans of making seasonal hires but the opening is available for 100,000 seasonal employees which is lower than the expected 130,000.
Target released an app for their during the summer, this app allows the employees to pick up extra shifts or adjust their working hours, or even swap timings with others. These changes were made to accommodate the parenting and academic needs of the employees. Retailers like Target are gearing up for the holiday season, sales during November and December are said to grow at least by 7%. Among this staffing has been a clear concern. A poll conducted by Korn Ferry concluded that out of 176 US retailers only 2% said they didn't have a problem in staffing.
