Amazon fights union vote

Last week, Amazon workers from its Staten Island warehouse won the decision to unionize, their celebrations were, however, short-lived as Amazon dealt its hand.

The e-commerce giant showed that they weren't gonna take the verdict lying down, the company has filed a list of objections with the National Labour Relations Board, trying to defeat the successful union vote at Staten Island. Many of the objections filed are largely concerning the NLRB itself. Mazon alleged that the regional office of the agency "created the impression" that it was supporting the union by filing a lawsuit against Amazon before the vote. They also claim that NLRB delayed the investigation of "unmeritorious" unfair labor practice charges and understaffed the elections. Among other issues, Amazon claims that the Amazon Labor Union harassed the employees and trespassed onto their properties to coerce them, they "misled employees by telling them that they would lose their benefits if they did not support the ALU".

Last week, in a monumental vote driven by the ALU, workers from Amazon's Staten Island warehouse voted to join the union marking the first successful vote to unionize an Amazon warehouse in the US. Labor lawyers believe that the company which was strongly against unionization is filing these objections as a first step towards dissolving the vote and elections, the lawsuit can delay the process of workers forming a union for a year.
