Biden announces federal pay raise

President Biden formally announced his plans to give civilian employees a federal pay raise which is to come in effect from 1 January 2022. Civilian employees under the General schedule will receive a 2.7% average pay increase. This revised payment proposal was submitted to Congress on Friday afternoon. This proposal keeps in mind locality-based pay therefore some employees who work in certain localities might receive more.

This news was received with much joy and adulation from Federal employee unions and organizations. The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) was also pleased with the news as Military members are also supposed to receive a 2.7% pay raise. The inclusion of locality-based pay as one of the specifics taken into consideration according to the General Schedule is a much-appreciated gesture.
