A Special Education Assistant belonging to the Mabel Rush Elementary School in Newberg showed up to work with a black face as a sign of protest. Newberg had recently mandated vaccine for all school employees, the staff whose name was not revealed, came to work after dying her face black using iodine, she called herself Rosa Parks and said the gesture was to be considered a sign of protests against the vaccination mandate.
The staff was removed from school grounds and placed on administrative leave immediately. Newberg acknowledged the racist connotations of this act and said that they condemn all such acts of racism. This statement was issued in light of how Blackface has historically been used to misrepresent and malign black communities and such acts, regardless of the intention, bring back experiences of trauma and backlash. This incident is one among a string of racist issues concerning Newberg schools, previously a student of a Newberg High School was caught conducting a slave-trade Snapcha group which results in a very public protest by the students during a public event to show solidarity to their black classmates. Newberg also banned Black Lives Matter, Pride, and other such "political" flags on campus.
