Cannabis industry jobs on the rise

The cannabis industry has been seeing great growth during the pandemic. Marijuana dispensaries and cultivation facilities were deemed essential in many states during the beginning of the pandemic and now the industry has become a refuge to many restaurant and retail workers who were furloughed or laid off. The cannabis industry is seeing continuous growth and has added around 80,000 jobs in 2020 which was more than double the number it added the year before that according to Leafly Jobs Report.

Data shows that an estimated 321,000 workers in America are currently employed in the industry growing 32% more than the previous year. The legalization of marijuana and related products has made the cannabis industry one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country. For comparison, the United States now has more cannabis workers than dentists, paramedics or electrical engineers. A lot of American workers have been rethinking their career options and working lives during the pandemic, especially in the retail sector. Many say that they have been in search of better benefits and working hours, which they have found in the cannabis industry. Kara Bradford, chief executive of Viridian Staffing, a cannabis recruiting firm says that she receives up to 500 applications for a single opening. "This is a fun, booming industry with plenty of opportunities to move up quickly", she added.
