Gulf War era veterans employment statistics

According to the recent reports published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Gulf Era War Veterans make up 7.4 million of the civil population of America. The Gulf War is divided into two segments, Gulf War I from August 1990 to August 2001 and Gulf War II from September 2001 to the present.   


Gulf War veterans constitute 40% of the total veteran population. 23% were veterans of Gulf War II and 16.3 were part of Gulf War I. The rest of the veterans served during World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, and others. Compared to other veterans, The Gulf War has more female veterans, about 17% of the veterans during the Gulf War are women while other periods have about 10%. Most of the veterans were aged between 45-54. 


Surprisingly, the data revealed that veterans aged between 18-24 had the highest unemployment rate of 7.4 %. Female veterans of Gulf War II had a higher unemployment rate compared to nonveterans. Most veterans, both male and female occupied management positions and other related occupations. Female veterans were less likely to occupy service roles compared to nonveterans. In total 5.6 million were employed in 2019. 


since the data focuses on veterans, it also takes into consideration service-related injuries suffered by the soldiers and how that has affected their job search. A total of 2.1 million employed Gulf War veterans had some form of service-related injury out of 37% constituted the Gulf War I veterans and 21% Gulf War II. Veterans with higher educational qualifications like bachelors or masters were more likely to be employed.
